Frank Castiglione (1949-2015)

Metal Art

Perhaps it’s Frank’s outlandish imagination fused with a subtly wicked sense of humor that delights people about his work - edgy, funky stuff hammered and torched from old car or snow blowers parts into a leering skull, or a dragon thumbing his nose at the world.   Yet viewers are charmed by his precise and strangely delicate natural life – orchids, iris, roses, & insects - reproduced in iron, copper and aluminum.

Just as fascinating, there is an unexpected sense of movement to his work: faeries swim through unseen water, bluebells bow to the earth, and dragon heads bob.  Whatever the draw, Frank’s work pleases.

If he could be here to greet you at this new gallery, Frank would delight in telling you the story of each piece you see, and in getting to know your stories; the man never knew a stranger.  He served as president of the Munising Bay Arts Association for a few years working to establish art connections in the community, and help other artists learn to create and manage their own businesses.  We all miss his energy, enthusiasm, and persistence.

To view more of Frank’s work currently for sale, stop in at the gallery or visit the UP~Scale Art on-line store.
