Glass - Woven fibers
Marquette, MI

Kena is a self taught fiber artist.  She started weaving simple rag rugs and quickly became obsessed with the fiber arts.  After reading many books and joining Yarnwinder’s Fiber guild  in Marquette she began weaving with different types of yarns and patters and made scarves, and towels, while continuing her love for weaving rag rugs.  She was introduced to the glass arts in 2004 when she met her husband Brain, a self-taught glass artist.

The couple shared their talents with each other and each learned the other’s art form.  Together the pair created Windsong Studios in 2015 which is located in Marquette.

The couple’s passion for the glass arts has taken them from stained to fused glass, which today is their preferred art form.  Fusing glass is a combination of art and science.  This process continues to challenge them, where they are constantly discovering new techniques and mediums.  Having the ability to put their ideas together in experimenting with projects large and small, from jewelry to panels allows the duo to express their creative talents in various ways.

It’s science, patience, and surrender mixed with surprise and delight.  The possibilities - endless and exciting!
